CBD Dosage: 3 steps to dosing like a Boss

Learn all you need to know about CBD Dosage

Choosing the best cannabidiol (CBD) oil is the first step. Learning how to calculate the right CBD dosage comes next. Many people have questions about how much CBD oil to take for their specific condition along with concerns about overdosing.

We’ll just start off by saying that there’s no straight answer to this question because scientific studies using humans have safely used CBD dosages that have ranged between 20 and 1,500 milligrams (mg) per day.

Having said that, overdosing shouldn’t be a problem (unless you drink an entire bottle at once!). Dosing correctly, however, can take a bit of practice. This article is going to teach you how to dose CBD like a pro using factors like your weight and a little bit of math.

CBD Dosage Step 1: Determine your use for CBD oil

CBD benefits

There are many uses for CBD oil. That’s why its important to clarify beforehand what the specific use for the CBD oil will be because an accurate CBD dosage depends greatly on the condition being treated.

CBD works with the endocannabinoid system, which is part of the larger nervous system in the body. Since its used for a variety of conditions, individuals treating something mild like a headache would require much less than those in a substantial amount of pain from a chronic disease or inflammatory condition.

CBD has been extensively researched and has been shown to help for a variety of conditions that include:

  • Relieving symptoms of depression
  • Reduction of anxiety
  • Improvement in sleep/insomnia
  • Seizure reduction/epilepsy
  • Chronic and acute pain
  • Symptoms of inflammation
  • Digestive issues like inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)

The conditions above all vary in severity, and that can make dosing CBD tricky. That’s why we like to advise that you clarify your use before purchasing and then work on dialing in your dose from there.

CBD Dosage Step 2: Choose your CBD Oil Strength

Green Cuisine CBD oil comes in 3 strengths: 5%, 10%. & 15%. These can translate into “low”, “medium” and “high” strengths that you can tailor to your specific condition.

Below is a general guide on choosing the right strength for your needs:

General use → low strength

Nausea/light pain → low to medium strength

Chronic or heavy pain → medium to high strength

Sleep disorders/insomnia → medium to high strength

Anxiety/Depression → medium to high strength

Epilepsy/Seizures → high strength/pharmaceutical grade

Cancer Symptoms → high strength/pharmaceutical grade

Strong Migraines → low to high strength

This is a rough guide to choosing the right strength. When in doubt however, a good rule of thumb for many people is to choose a lower strength and work their way up if needed.

CBD Dosage Step 3: Determine the CBD Oil Potency

Now that you have chosen your strength, the next step is to figure out the potency of each drop. In the case of Green Cuisine CBD oil, we’ve done that for you below:

Each 30ml bottle of our CBD oil has approximately 200 drops and each drop has a different amount of CBD per strength as follows:

5%: 500mg/200 drops = 2.5mg/drop

10%: 1000mg/200 drops = 5mg/drop

15%: 1500mg/200 drops = 7.5mg/drop

Depending upon your condition, the calculation for your dose is as follows:

Low strength → 0.1 mg CBD per pound (0.2 mg/kg)

Medium strength → 0.3 mg CBD per pound (0.6 mg/kg)

High strength → 0.6 mg CBD per pound (1.2 mg/kg)

Please note that the above calculations are for approximate CBD dosages. It’s always safest to start at a low dose and work your way up.

CBD Dosage Amount Example

Some of you may be confused at this point but you don’t have to be! Here is an example to help clarify the concepts you learned above.

Example: Marie – 70kg – Light Headaches

Marie is an office worker that gets headaches after working long hours at her computer. She knows that she needs to take more breaks to rest her eyes and is on a plan to get more relaxation into her day. Until then, she chooses to use CBD oil instead of chemical pain relievers that can damage her liver.

Here are the steps she took according to this guide:

Step 1: Determine CBD Oil Use

Besides headaches, Marie sometimes has insomnia, so she has determined she will use CBD to treat these two conditions.

Step 2: Choose CBD Oil Strength

Marie chose Green Cuisine CBD Oil in the “medium” 10% strength so she can use it for both headaches and insomnia.

Step 3: Calculate the Correct CBD Dosage

Using the two formulas above we can calculate both light and medium doses. Recall the formulas:

Low strength → 0.1 mg CBD per pound (0.2 mg/kg)

Medium strength → 0.3 mg CBD per pound (0.6 mg/kg)

Low strength dose at 0.2mg CBD/kg = 0.2 x 70 = 14mg CBD/day, or approximately 3 drops.

Medium strength dose at 0.6mg CBD/kg = 0.6 x 70 = 42mg CBD/day, or approximately 8 drops.

A Final Word on Calculating the Right CBD Oil Dosage

Dosing with CBD oil doesn’t have to be complicated and you can always remember that doses of up to 1500mg/day have been conducted in scientific studies. That’s equivalent to an entire bottle of our 15% strength premium CBD oil!

Dosing CBD correctly can be as easy as 1-2-3: (1) Determine the use, (2) Choose the strength, and (3) Plug your weight into the formula.
