Skullcap

The botanical name of Skullcap is Scutellaria.  There are about 200 different types of skullcap that are found all over the world.

Different cultures have used the herb over the centuries. For example, the Chinese variant was already used in the first centuries AD to drive away evil spirits. In traditional Chinese medicine, the plant is used for Huangqin medicine, which is still popular today.

The variant used for the Skullcap mix is the Scutellaria Lateriflora. This variant occurs naturally in North America and is also known as blue skullcap, mad dog skullcap or blue skullcap.

The plant has purple flowers that resemble a helmet, nowadays this variant is mainly used for its calming properties. Skullcap can be used in a variety of ways, including brewing tea.
